Compound of thorn + bush. Cognate with Dutch doornbos, German Dornbusch and Swedish törnbuske, all meaning the same and having the same elements (stemming from Proto-Germanic *þurnaz + *buskaz), thus they either share a common Germanic root or are calques of the German word.
