OUTLIER is a daily word game. We keep data collection minimal — just enough to run the game and the leaderboards. Here's exactly what that means.
What we collect
A random player ID stored in a cookie on your device — this is how the game remembers your progress without an account.
A coarse location (country, region, city) derived from your connection when you play. We do not store your raw IP address.
Your email address — only if you choose to claim a handle. Claiming is optional; you can play without it.
Gameplay data: the words you find, your scores, and when you played.
Standard analytics about page visits, via Google Analytics.
How we use it
To run the daily game, save your progress, and build the leaderboards.
To send the daily puzzle email — only if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
To understand how the game is used so we can improve it.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.
We use a small set of service providers to operate OUTLIER: Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database), Resend (email delivery), and Google Analytics. They process data only to provide their service to us.
Your choices
Play anonymously — without claiming a handle, we never have your email.
Unsubscribe from the daily email using the link in any email, or from Settings.
Clear your browser cookies to reset your anonymous player at any time.
