No one else can change your score
Your points come from each word’s rarity on that board, drawn from real English-frequency data. It is set before the board drops, not crowd-sourced from how many people find it that day. Most “rare word” games let the crowd move your number mid-day; OUTLIER does not. On any given board, a word carries the same base rarity for every player in the world.
One board, one moment, everyone
The same 25 letters drop for the whole world at the same instant, once a day. There is no easier board, no head start, no regional variation. Everyone plays the exact same hunt.
Your score is verifiable
Every word on the board has a Rarity Score you can look up, and your total is simply the sum of the words you found. The math is identical for every player and every day. Your score is set the moment you lock in, scored the same way live and when the day settles. It never changes afterward. See the rarity ladder for the exact numbers.
Discovery beats memorizing
Encore gently lowers the points for re-finding the same rare word over and over, so the leaderboard rewards finding new words rather than copying a memorized list. It only ever looks at your own history and never changes how a word scores for anyone else.
Humans only
OUTLIER is a contest between people. The public leaderboards and stats count real human play: practice games never count, and accounts run by software do not belong on a board built for players.
Using a script, a solver or an automated agent to play, or creating accounts in bulk, breaks the Terms of Service and can cost you your account. We do not publish how we spot it, for the same reason a shop does not publish where the cameras are. What we will say is that we look at how a game was played, not at how good the words were. Knowing rare words is the entire point of this game and is never held against you.
Every removal is reviewed by a person before it happens.
Open rules, by design
We tell you exactly how scoring works and why. Knowing the rules doesn’t let anyone cheat: rarity is set before the board drops whether or not you understand it, and you still have to actually find the words. A game that stays fair even when everyone knows how it works is the strongest kind there is.
