Where it comes from
Borrowed from Russian саксау́л (saksaúl), via a Turkic variety (compare Bashkir саҡсауыл (saqsawıl), Kazakh сексеуіл (seksewil)), ultimately from Kalmyk [script needed] (zaɣzāml̥, “a bush growing in the desert”), compare Mongolian заг (zag, “saxaul”), Kalmyk за (za).
