MORPHOGENY
Definition of MORPHOGENY
noun
The study of the evolution of forms by observing the supposed ontogenic recapitulation of that phylogeny.

Where it comes from
Simplified learned borrowing from German Morphontogenie, itself from morpho- + Ontogenie; equivalent to a reduction of morpho- + ontogeny to morpho- (“shape”) + -geny (“origin”). The simplification means that the term is also used to translate German Morphogenie, the distinction between Morphontogenie and Morphogenie not being made in English.
