Borrowed from French fuselage. Ultimately from Latin fūsus (“spindle, spinning wheel”). For the meaning development, compare rocket, ultimately from Proto-Germanic *rukkô (“spinning wheel, distaff”) (whence also English rock (“distaff, the flax or wool on a distaff”)).
