Where it comes from

From bake + -ery (“place of”). Replaced earlier bakehouse. Originally "place for making bread"; as "shop where baked goods are sold", it was believed by British travelers by 1832 to be an American-invented term. This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term. Particularly: “Were Swedish/Danish bageri calqued from English or vice versa? What is the history?” Sense 4 is by analogy with cake (“buttocks”).
