What it measures

Words with Germanic roots.

Every player with at least twenty traced words is scored on eight axes, and the one they sit furthest above the median on becomes their type. It is a comparison against everybody else, not a score — nobody is winning at being Anglo-Saxon, and the type can change as you play.

Worth knowing

• 1 in 6 players with a Word DNA report is an Anglo-Saxon, out of 8,887 who have one.
• The typical holder runs 1.7× the typical player on this measure — 20.7% against 12.2%.
• The top tenth of the type are above 28.9%, and the highest anybody has reached is 47.8%.
• They average 157 found words, 108 of which we can trace back to a named ancestor.
• 1,220 of them are listed below. 318 have a private profile, so they do not appear.
